Well, Thanksgiving is upon us and we’ve have you covered with some great wines and beers. Of course, this is just a small peak into what we have here at the shop, so be sure to swing by and check out our selection.
One of the great ways to start off Thanksgiving, or any meal, is with a superb bottle of Champagne, and Bollinger is one of my favorites! We have a special on half bottles for only $30. Regular price was $39. Add a 6 bottle discount and and it goes down into the $20′s. Steal. A wonderful bottle of Chardonnay is a nice pairing with Thanksgiving. I usually like to have a bottle of white Burgundy, however, Anderson Family Vineyards produces a Chardonnay that would overtake a lot of French Chardonnays, and it’s from Oregon. It’s always nice to serve out of town guests wines made so close to home. Another crowd pleaser is the Madrone Mountain “Starthistle Cuvee”. A wild blend of Riesling, Huxelrebe, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. Quite rich and delicious, this is one that bridges the gap between families of sweet wine drinkers and geeky wine drinkers. It goes great with spicy food too.
For a classic pairing with Thanksgiving dinner, grab wines made from Gamay Noir. One is a perennial favorite from local producer Brick House. They had a huge reduction in the amount they were able to make this year, so get it while you can. Jumping across the pond, you can always grab a great Beaujolais producer. No, not the nouveau stuff, the good stuff. Domaine Rochette has a wonderful Beaujolais Village that is sure to please. Then there are the big boys, wines such as Abbot’s Table from Owen Roe, or a big Zinfandel that is sure to pep up any turkey that has been in the oven for 6 hours too long.
Beer drinkers should check out the Mc Chouffe Brown Ale. Crazy delicious and perfect for all those fall flavors. Dogfish has the “My Antonia” Imperial Pilsner that would be amazing with turkey. Not only does it pair well with the food, it’s an imperial, so dealing with your crazy uncle gets a little easier after 1 or 2. And, how do you go wrong with Lagunitas Doppel Weizen? You can’t, because it is amazing!
